Final Portfolio

The final portfolio is the final assignment for English 110. You can think of this portfolio as your final exam, since there is no test in this class.

The purpose of the portfolio is to help you (and me) reflect on what you’ve learned in this class and to assess how you’ve met the following English 110 learning goals. It will also give you an additional opportunity to revise writing that you’ve done this semester for the final time.

The requirements that you complete will be based on the grade that you are working toward earning. Please see the requirements below.

Requirements

  1. Contains a completed Grading Agreement checklist.
  2. Contains the correct amount of revised work for the grade you are working toward.
  3. Contains a Writer’s Letter (no shorter than 500 words.)
  4. Submitted to your personal submission channel on Slack by the end of the day of your final exam:

Step 1: Grading Agreement Checklist

Consult the Grading Agreement here. Determine what grade you have earned based on what you have completed that has met requirements, and what you still need to do to meet requirements.

Click here to make a copy of this checklist, fill it out, and paste a link to your copy into your Slack channel. If you are in class on December 8th, we will be doing this together. Here’s a video that shows you what to do:

Step 2: Make Revisions.

If you are working toward an A in this class, you will make revisions on two pieces of writing. One should be the Critical Essay. The other can be any other piece of writing (a PRJ or the Annotated Bibliography). Use my feedback, a Writing Center consultation (optional), your Extra Peer Review feedback, etc. to guide this process.

If you are working toward a B in this class, you only need to make revisions on the Critical Essay.

If you are working toward a C or a D in this class, you do not need to make additional revisions. Instead, make sure that you have completed all of the requirements for your PRJs and that you have turned everything else in.

Step 3: Write a Final Portfolio Writer’s Letter (no shorter than 500 words)

Your Final Portfolio Writer’s Letter should answer the questions in the Writer’s Letter prompt, including all of the questions at the bottom of the prompt. Please make sure that it is at least 500 words long.

If you are working toward an A+, don’t forget that this letter should contain some details about how you used the in-class peer review to revise your Critical Essay.

Step 4: Submit the Portfolio

Submit all of these components to your personal Slack channel by no later than 11:59pm on the day of your final exam (note: there is no final exam — this counts as your final exam.) Exam dates for each section are listed below. You are welcome to submit your portfolio in advance.

  • Section 15 (10:05-11:55) — Tuesday, 12/15 @ 11:59pm
  • Section 44 (1:40 – 3:30) — Thursday, 12/17 @ 11:59pm
  • Section 43 (3:40 – 5:30) — Tuesday, 12/15 @ 11:59pm
